Finding your way back in featureless landscapes can be difficult!

BirdLife Victoria Committee ran another well attended navigation training session in Melbourne in 2016. The objective was to train members on how to navigate using maps, compass and GPS. These skills included enabling them to return to a previously visited site, find their vehicle in difficult country, or travel a predetermined route, or direction. This has many applications in the bush, particularly in relatively featureless areas and most importantly ensures that nobody gets lost. The instruction also made people aware of their safety, including the need for suitable clothing and the importance of carrying extra supplies, e.g. spare batteries.
