BirdLife WA has produced a brochure on Cats and Birds and how responsible cat ownership can minimise the risk to native wildlife.  We have distributed it through local government and conservation networks in the hope that it will assist in encouraging cat owners to manage their pets’ hunting activities before it is too late and we no longer have viable native bird populations.  Australia has an estimated 20 million feral cats, killing over 300 million birds per annum, while domestic cats account for around 61 million dead birds every year.

The brochure, modelled on a similar one produced by the Government of Tasmania, addresses cat ownership responsibilities under WA’s Cat Laws and outlines suggestions for owners to better manage their cats’ activities.

We hope that you will consider distributing this brochure where appropriate.  It can be downloaded from our website
