Community Recognition Award for SA hoodie Friends
Congratulations to Friends of the Hooded Plover Fleurieu Peninsula volunteers Ligita Bligzna, and John and Wendy Cobb for your Community Recognition Award from Corey Winguard MP, presented with the South Australian Minister for Environment David Speirs MP.
The award was granted in recognition of the work of the Friends for helping the Seacliff Beach hoodies have success on one of the busiest beaches in South Australia!
These birds turned up three years ago to nest on this busy Adelaide metro beach and have been very successful at this site!.
What’s more, this breeding season they fledged two chicks, from two separate broods!
That is very rare indeed and a testimony to the hundreds of volunteer hours devoted to safe-guarding and monitoring the hoodie family during the breeding season, and the efforts of City of Holdfast Bay council to protect and maintain the quality of the habitat.
This project is a collaboration between community volunteers, City of Holdfast Bay, Birdlife Australia and Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Board.
Congratulations Ligita, Wendy and John!
Thanks to Grainne Maguire, Program Leader (Coastal Birds) for passing on this wonderful news.
